A two-day long 'Pharma Fest-2024' has started on Sunday at Mokarram Hossain Khandkar Vigyan Bhavan premises of Dhaka University as a joint initiative of the Department of Pharmacy, Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmacy Club.

Dhaka University Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Professor Dr. Sitesh Chandra Bachar inaugurated this fest.

Member of Parliament and chairman of Radiant Pharmaceuticals Ltd. Nasser Shahriar Zahedi was present as the chief guest.

The chairman of the pharmacy department, Professor Dr. In the opening ceremony of the fest under the chairmanship of SM Abdur Rahman, the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy Prof. Dr. Feroze Ahmed was present as special guest. The convenor of the fest gave a welcome speech. Md. Ilyas al-Mamun. Pharmacy Club General Secretary Sushmita Talukder conducted the program.

Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Professor Dr. Sitesh Chandra Bachar said, Dhaka University Pharmacy Faculty is making an important contribution in meeting the needs of the country's pharmacy sector and in research and innovation in the pharmaceutical industry.

He mentioned that new projects will be accepted and implemented in the university with the cooperation of the government and related parties to ensure the research environment, infrastructural development, installation of modern equipment in laboratories, modernization of classrooms and further increase the quality of education. He called upon teachers, researchers and pharmacists to work with professionalism.

Member of Parliament Nasser Shahriar Zahedi emphasized on research and innovation as well as strengthening industry-academia relationship to advance the country's pharmaceutical industry.

He said that the pharmacist profession should be created in public and private hospitals and communities instead of being associated with the industry. He called on the teachers, researchers, students and pharmacists to work together to achieve social recognition of pharmacists.

Notably, this fest is being held by organizing the Pharma Olympiad, debate competition, poster presentation and lectures.

Teachers, students, researchers, pharmacists and representatives of drug regulatory agencies and drug manufacturing organizations are participating in it.
