The Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Sunamganj has come forward to provide medical treatment to a speech-impaired mentally disabled man who had been lying injured on the roadside for two days after being hit by a motorcycle carrying three passengers.

On Friday and Saturday, the injured, unidentified mentally challenged man received medical treatment at Tahirpur Upazila Health Complex and Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital under the directive of Sunamganj DC Dr. Mohammad Elias Mia and the supervision of Tahirpur UNO  Md. Abul Hashem.

It is mentioned that around 8:30 PM on Thursday, a motorcycle with three riders recklessly ran over the mentally challenged man while he was sleeping beside the road near Ghagatia Chalk Bazar in Badaghat, Tahirpur.

Despite a local rural doctor administering a painkiller injection to the injured man who was writhing in pain by the roadside, he remained lying there until 4 PM on Friday.

Local residents informed Daily Jugantor Staff Reporter Habib Sarwar Azad about the incident. The reporter later shared a video on Facebook showing the injured, speech-impaired man. Within an hour, over 50,000 netizens from home and abroad viewed the video and expressed outrage and concern, urging authorities to ensure medical treatment for the victim. The video came to the attention of the Sunamganj DC, who then took immediate action to initiate the treatment of the injured man.

On Sunday afternoon, Rubel from Ghagatia village in Tahirpur, local businessman representatives from Chalk Bazar, and area residents expressed their gratitude to  DC, Tahirpur UNO and Daily Jugantor Reporter Habib Sarwar Azad.

They mentioned that the unidentified mentally challenged young man had been staying in the Ghagatia Chalk Bazar area for the last 17 to 20 years. The local community strongly condemned the reckless behavior of the three motorcycle riders that led to his injury.

Dr. Miza Riyad Hasan, the Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer of Tahirpur said,  there was concern that the man's neck might have been fractured in the accident. However, after thorough medical examination and treatment, it is believed that the man is now mostly out of danger.
