
New trust fund of Tk 15 lakh established to provide scholarships to DU students

A new trust fund titled ‘Professor Dr. Abul Kalam Manjur Morshed Trust Fund’ has been formed to provide scholarships to students of different years of the Department of Linguistics of Dhaka University.
To establish this trust fund in memory of her father, late Professor Dr. Abul Kalam Manjur Morshed’s daughter Manjula Morshed handed over a cheque of Tk 15 lakh to Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan on Thursday.
Treasurer Prof Dr. M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Dean of the Faculty of Arts Prof Dr. Mohammad Siddiqur Rahman Khan, Director of the International Mother Language Institute Prof Dr. Muhammad Asaduzzaman, Chairperson of the Department of Linguistics Dr. Monira Begum and Acting Registrar Munshi Shams Uddin Ahmed were present.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan thanked the donor for forming this trust fund.
He expressed hope that students will benefit a lot through this. He mentioned that such an initiative will play an effective role in further strengthening the relationship of the university with the society.
From the income of this trust fund, scholarships will be given to students who have achieved the highest CGPA in the semester final examination of different years of the Department of Linguistics every year.
It is worth noting that Prof Dr. Abul Kalam Manjur Morshed was born in 1938 and passed away in 2023. He taught in the Department of Bangla and Department of Linguistics of Dhaka University.
