Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan has called on everyone to work together to conserve the environment and forests, saying that Dhaka University will always stand by him in this regard. He said this while speaking as the chief guest at a program organized at Smriti Chirantan Chattar on Friday, on the occasion of International Forest Day.

The Arboriculture Center organized the program in collaboration with the Faculty of Science, Faculty of Biology and the Environment Parliament of Dhaka University. This year, the theme of the day is 'Forest and Food'.

The program was presided over by the Director of Arboriculture Center, Professor Dr. Mohammad Jasim Uddin, Dean of the Faculty of Science, Professor Dr. Abdus Salam, Dean of the Faculty of Biology, Professor Dr. Md. Enamul Haque, Administrator of Dhaka South City Corporation, Md. Shahjahan Mia and Colonel (Retd) Md. Zakaria Hossain spoke as special guests.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan said, we need to take effective steps to conserve nature, biodiversity and forests. Dhaka University administration is playing its role in afforestation and environmental conservation by taking various steps including strengthening the tree plantation program on the university campus, banning leaf burning and fireworks, and plastic banning program. He emphasized on individuals and institutions working together to conserve the environment.

Earlier, Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan planted a tree sapling at Smriti Chirantan Chattar as part of the afforestation program on the Dhaka University campus. After the discussion, a colorful rally was taken out from Smriti Chirantan Chattar under the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor.
