Traditional boat race of rural Bengal plays vital role in reviving bond of unity, harmony among people : Dr. Moyeen Khan

Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives (LGRD) Minister Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan has said that the traditional boat race of rural Bengal will play an important role in reviving the bond of unity, harmony and joy among the people.
He said this while speaking as the chief guest at the traditional boat race 2026 organized at Joshar Bazar in Shibpur Upazila of Narsingdi.
The minister said, "Along with the external development of the country, importance should also be given to the physical and mental development of the young and working population. For this reason, it is necessary to expand sports and cultural activities. It is possible to build a healthy and disciplined nation through sports."
He said, boat racing is a long-standing tradition of rural Bengal. The pure joy that I used to enjoy watching boat races in Dhaka's Buriganga as a child has been lost to the changes of time and social complexity. He expressed hope that through this traditional event, that joy and mutual harmony will return among the people.
Dr. Abdul Moin Khan said, "The country must move forward towards a beautiful, traditional and normal lifestyle, free from political complications and revenge. Along with education, politics and welfare activities for the people of the country, everyone must play a role in the revival of Bangladesh."
Congratulating the leaders and workers of Shibpur and Raipura involved in organizing the boat race, the Local Government Minister said that such events need to be continued in the future.
Narsingdi-3 MP Manjur Elahi presided over the function, while Narsingdi-1 MP Khairul Kabir Khokon inaugurated the boat race. Later, the Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives inspected the boat race.
