Three -year Pecan Project inaugurated in Faridpur

The Pecan Project was inaugurated in Faridpur with the aim of improving research on 5 diseases in health research.
On this occasion, an inaugural seminar was organized at the conference room of Faridpur Diabetic Hospital at 11 am on Wednesday in collaboration with University College London and the Center for Health Research of Bangladesh Diabetic Association.
The program was presided over by National Professor Professor Dr. AK Azad Khan, President of Bangladesh Diabetic Association, and Faridpur Deputy Commissioner Md. Kamrul Hasan Molla was present as the chief guest.
Faridpur Civil Surgeon Dr. Mahmudul Hasan, Professor Edward Fottrell of London University, Dr. Joanna Morrison, General Secretary of Faridpur Diabetes Association Professor M. A. Samad, senior journalist and educationist Professor Md. Shahjahan and others were present at the time. The meeting was attended by dignitaries from different walks of life of Faridpur as well as high-level government officials.
At that time, the speakers said that the PICAN project has selected two cities in two countries of the world. These include Kathmandu city of Nepal and Wards 15 and 21 of Faridpur Municipality.
Research and intervention activities will be conducted on five diseases on 13 thousand people of these two wards. The five diseases include heart disease, diabetes, cancer, respiratory diseases and mental health problems.
