Teesta River water above 13-cm danger level

Heavy rainfall and mountain landslides from upstream have caused the water of the Teesta River to flow above the danger level. Since 6 am on Wednesday (August 5), the water of the Teesta River has flowed 13 centimeters above the danger level at the Dalia Teesta Barrage Point in Nilphamari.
Nurul Islam, a water meter at the Dalia Water Development Board, said that the water level of the Teesta started rising from Tuesday night. Then from 6 am, the water of the Teesta flowed 13 centimeters above the danger level at the Dalia Teesta Barrage Poet. The danger level at this point is 52.15 centimeters. Currently, the water of the Teesta is flowing 52.28 centimeters above the danger level. Meanwhile, 44 sluice gates of the Teesta Barrage have been opened to control the speed of the water.
The sudden rise in the Teesta River has flooded houses and houses in several villages in 5 unions of Dimla and Jaldhaka upazilas of Nilphamari district along the river. The water level in the low-lying areas and villages along the river is constantly increasing. As a result, there is extreme anxiety among the people of these villages, said the local public representatives.
