The newly -elected Executive Committee of Sundarganj Upazila Press Club of Gaibandha has started a new journey with a commitment to camaraderie, harmony and objective journalism.

The inauguration and introduction meeting of the press club was held in the lively presence of journalists, political leaders, businessmen, philanthropists and people from different classes and professions.

The inauguration was held at the Upazila Parishad Auditorium on Saturday morning, organized by the Sundarganj Upazila Press Club. At the beginning, an introduction session was held for the newly elected executive committee members.

Senior journalist Md. Shahjahan Miah presided over the function, and Gaibandha-1 (Sundarganj) Constituency MP and Gaibandha District Jamaat-e-Islami Nayeb-e-Ameer Professor Md. Majedur Rahman spoke as the chief guest. Sundarganj Upazila Press Club President Md. Zahidul Islam Zahid delivered the welcome speech.

Sundarganj Upazila Press Club General Secretary Md. Khizir Uddin and Organizing Secretary Sudipto Shamim jointly moderated the event, while Upazila BNP Convener Md. Babul Ahmed, Upazila Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Md. Shahidul Islam Sarkar Manju, Upazila Jamaat Secretary Md. Samiul Islam, Municipal Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Muha. Ekramul Haque, Municipal BNP Convener Md. Ikhtiar Uddin Bhuiyan Nipon, Member Secretary Md. Mizanur Rahman Lipu, prominent industrialist and former president of Sundarganj Upazila Press Club Md. Nazrul Islam, prominent businessman Md. Abdul Malek and Sundarganj Upazila Press Club Senior President M A Masud, etc. spoke.

The chief guest, Gaibandha-1 (Sundarganj) MP Prof Md. Majedur Rahman said, "The media is one of the most important pillars of the state and society. An independent, courageous and objective media presents the real picture of society to the people and plays an effective role in ensuring accountability in state activities. If journalists perform their duties with honesty, dedication and professionalism, then the inconsistencies, corruption, irregularities and public suffering in society easily come to the fore and a way is prepared for their solution."

The speakers said that journalism is not just a profession, it is an important responsibility towards the society and the state. Therefore, mutual harmony, professional cooperation, unity and brotherhood among journalists must be further strengthened. They said that the media plays an important role in protecting public interest by fearlessly highlighting the problems, sufferings, prospects, development and various inconsistencies of local people. They expressed hope that the Sundarganj Upazila Press Club will also gain the trust of the general public through the practice of objective, responsible and public welfare-oriented journalism and will play a more effective role in highlighting issues related to the development of the upazila and the interests of the people.

At the end of the discussion, the Press Club presented mugs with the Press Club logo as a memento of appreciation to the chief guest and invited guests.

Finally, the newly elected executive committee members reiterated their commitment to practicing objective, impartial and public welfare-oriented journalism.
