Sherpur's Devra Pir Darbar closed for two years

Once bustling with devotees, religious gatherings, and nightly spiritual chants, the shrine of Hazrat Badruddin Haydar—known as Devra Pir Darbar Sharif in Lakshmipur union of Sherpur Sadar upazila—has remained closed for nearly two years following violent clashes.
Long regarded as a prominent spiritual hub, the darbar has fallen into abandonment, with locals reporting that livestock graze on the grounds and drug users frequent the site after dark.
The stagnation stems from a violent confrontation in November 2024, triggered by tensions between a local madrasa's teachers and students, residents, and darbar followers.
