A seminar titled ‘Thoughts and Expectations of University Students on State Reforms’ on the post-July Uprising Reform Agenda in Bangladesh was held at Professor Muzaffar Ahmed Chowdhury Auditorium on Monday.

Prof Dr. Asif Nazrul, Advisee to the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, was present as the chief guest at the event. Prof Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan, Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University, spoke as a resource person at the seminar.

The seminar was organized by the Dhaka University Center on Budget and Policy.

Chaired by Prof Dr. Taiyebur Rahman, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Dhaka University, Professor Dr. Kazi Maruful Islam, Department of Development Studies, presented the research results on ‘Students’ Views and Expectations on Reforms in State Institutions’ at the event. Consensus Commission members Dr. Iftekharuzzaman and Dr. Badiul Alam Majumder were present as special guests at the event. Associate Professor of the Department of Sociology of Dhaka University Dr. Samina Lutfa, Joint Convener of the National Citizens Committee Sarwar Tushar and Central Coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement Bhuiyan Mohammad Asaduzzaman participated in the discussion. In addition, UNDP Program Specialist Mr. Beniam Gebrezhneghi spoke virtually at the event. Student leaders from various private universities including Dhaka University were present at the event.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan said that the general public has high expectations regarding state reforms. Stressing the importance of continuing research and discussions in this regard, he said that we need to continue constructive discussions on reforms.

He mentioned that politically aware students can play an effective role in this regard. He called on researchers to present the summary of constructive discussions and research on state reforms to everyone.
