Self-proclaimed journalist arrested in Nesarabad for pro-AL postering, anti-govt activities

Nesarabad (Pirojpur) Correspondent

Police arrested Md. Zia Uddin Towhid (55) from his residence in Shashid village on Saturday afternoon for allegedly displaying August 15 Mourning Day posters and engaging in anti-government activities in Nesarabad, Pirojpur.

Towhid—who claims to be a journalist, talk show analyst, and chairman of 'Village Voice'—was detained after posters paying tribute to Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina surfaced across markets in Samudaykathi Union. The posters featured Towhid alongside local Chhatra League leader Sagar Mandal. Local Opposition youth leaders also accused Towhid of using social media to actively criticize the government and promote Awami League interests since August 5.

While Towhid denied all allegations, claiming illness and ignorance of the posters, Nesarabad Police Station OC Md. Mehedi Hasan confirmed the arrest for anti-government conduct, adding that formal legal proceedings are underway.
