Rally of Bangladesh Workers and Employees Federation demanding the opening of all closed sugar mills including Shyampur sugar mill was held recently at Rangpur Press Club Chattar at the initiative of Bangladesh Workers and Employees Federation, Rangpur District, demanding the reopening of all closed sugar mills including Shyampur sugar mill, reinstatement of all sacked workers, payment of arrears and saving sugarcane farmers.

Under the chairmanship of the organization's district convenor Suresh Basfour, Vice-President of the Bangladesh Workers' Federation Central Committee Manas Nandi, Organizational Secretary Masud Reza, BASD (Marxist) Rangpur District Convenor Anwar Hossain Bablu, Member Secretary Ahsanul Arefin Titu, prominent farmer Maqbul Hossain Chowdhury, JSD District General Secretary Abduch Sadek Jihadi. Prominent sugarcane advocate Mahfuzar Rahman Palash, Ruhul Amin Liton, former president of Shampur Sugar Mill Employees Union Aktarul Badsha, General Secretary Momtazul Al Mostafa etc. were present in the meeting.

The leaders said that few sugar importers are fascists during the epidemic corona and India's interests. Awami government closed 6 sugar mills out of 15 sugar mills in the country. All of them are in North Bengal. The only heavy industry in Rangpur is the Shyampur sugar mill. This sugar mill is the second largest sugar mill in Bangladesh. The lives of hundreds of workers, thousands of sugarcane farmers and other types of workers depend on this sugar mill. Shyampur sugar mill was a source of livelihood for 30 thousand people. Moreover, the own production is very little compared to the demand of sugar in the country.

Therefore, all the closed sugar mills including Shyampur sugar mill should be started immediately and the domestic production should be increased immediately. The fascist government has fallen through the struggle of the students. Now the responsibility of the interim government is the previous government. To cancel all the decisions taken against the public interest and take a decision in the public interest. The decision to close the sugar mill is also a decision against the public interest. Therefore, the interim government should take effective steps to protect the livelihood of the sugar mill workers, sugarcane farmers and all the people associated with it by opening all the closed sugar mills including the Shyampur sugar mill immediately.
