Sadullapur Press Club has expressed strong anger and protest over the incident of two journalists being harassed and their cameras and microphones being taken away while collecting information and taking statements.
At the same time, the journalists of the press club have demanded the immediate removal of Sadullapur Assistant Commissioner (Land) Jasim Uddin and departmental action against him.
The meeting was addressed by the press club's general secretary and Jamuna Television representative Zillur Rahman Palash, assistant general secretary Tofail Hossain Zakir, organizing secretary Aminul Islam, finance secretary Jahangir Alam, former president Tajul Islam Reza, former general secretary Khorshed Alam, Cholaiman Sarkar, Saidur Rahman, Abdul Kafi Sarkar and Shamim Sardar.
The speakers said that such behavior of a responsible administrative officer with journalists while collecting government information and statements is not only condemnable, but also a direct attack on the freedom of the media and the constitutional right to information.
Meanwhile, when the video and news of the incident were broadcast in various media, there was a huge reaction in various circles including social media. Later, Rangpur Divisional Commissioner took note of the matter and ordered an investigation. In continuation of this, the Additional Divisional Commissioner (Revenue) of Rangpur Division, Ashraful Islam, conducted the investigation at the Gaibandha Circuit House on Sunday.
During the investigation, the statements of the journalists concerned were taken and recorded.
