Discussion in Sherpur emphasizes responsible social media use to curb rumors

A discussion meeting was held in Sherpur on.Monday with the participation of journalists, civil society members, and content creators to prevent the spread of misleading information and rumors on social media. The event was organized by the district administration in the afternoon at DC's Conference Room.
Chaired by Sherpur Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Farida Yasmin, the meeting was addressed by Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) Saiful Islam Kamal, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Sheikh Jahid Hasan Prince, District Education Officer Md. Rejuan, Sherpur Press Club President Kakon Reza, General Secretary Masud Hasan Badal, and BNP leader Md. Abdul Awal. Heads of various government and non-government organizations, political activists, and media personnel were also present.
Addressing the session, DC Farida Yasmin noted that social media has become an integral part of daily life, where unverified or false information can spread rapidly and trigger widespread public confusion. She urged everyone to play a responsible role by verifying facts before dissemination, refraining from spreading propaganda, and highlighting positive issues for the welfare of society and the state.
The meeting featured detailed discussions on optimizing social media usage, promoting public interest content, avoiding the sharing of sensitive data without verification, preventing personal attacks, and upholding social order and human dignity.
The meeting also highlighted the crucial role of families, community leaders, and journalists in preventing cyberbullying and misinformation.
