The Bangladesh Coast Guard, in a joint operation, has seized two dredgers and a bulkhead for illegally extracting soil from the Dharmaganj estuary area under Narayanganj Sadar Thana.

Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon, the media officer of the Bangladesh Coast Guard, disclosed this information on Monday afternoon.

According to Coast Guard sources, the joint drive was conducted by the Coast Guard Station Pagla and the local Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) on Sunday.

The operation, initiated based on a tip-off, commenced at 11:30 AM and concluded at 7:30 PM near the Dharmaganj estuary, resulting in the seizure of two grab dredgers and a bulkhead while soil was being extracted illegally.

However, no arrests could be made during the operation as the perpetrators managed to flee the scene after sensing the presence of the law enforcers. The seized vessels were later handed over to the Boktaboli River Police for subsequent legal action.

The press release added that the Coast Guard will continue such operations in the future to safeguard agricultural lands and human habitats from illegal soil extractors.
