
Prof Yunus orders quick action on implementable health sector reform proposals

Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus on Monday said the recommendations of the Health Sector Reform Commission will play an important role in resolving the long-standing problems in the country's health sector and directed all concerned to take initiatives to quickly implement the recommendations that are immediately implementable."The problems in the health sector are long-standing problems. If we can solve these problems through this, it will be a significant achievement,” he said, describing the report of the Health Reform Commission as a groundbreaking step to that end.Prof Yunus made the remarks after receiving the report from the Health Sector Reform Commission at the State Guest House Jamuna.He said the officials concerned should immediately focus on the recommendations that are possible to implement at this moment."A big problem is the shortage of doctors, and in some cases, even if there are doctors, there are no doctors where they are needed. This problem must be solved permanently," said the Chief Adviser.Emphasising the decentralisation of the medical system, he said, "Without this, it is not possible to solve the problem. We have to ensure that doctors stay where they are posted."Chief of the 12-member Health Sector Reform Commission national Prof Dr AK Azad Khan delivered the introductory speech, while commission member Prof Dr Syed Md Akram Hossain unveiled the report.Other members of the commission Dr Abu Mohammad Zakir Hossain, Prof Dr Liaquat Ali, Prof Dr Syed Md Akram Hossain, Prof Dr Syed Atiqul Haque, Prof Dr Sayera Akther, MM Reza, Dr Azharul Islam, Dr Ahmed Ahsanur Rahman and Omair Afif were present.
