Two involved in Sagar-Runi murder: Task force report

A progress report submitted to the High Court has revealed that two individuals were involved in the brutal 2012 murders of journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi, though their identities remain unknown due to inconclusive DNA evidence.
The couples, killed in their West Razabazar apartment, were not victims of domestic, financial, or professional disputes, according to investigators.
The report confirms they were attacked with a kitchen knife and cleaver between 3am and 5am while lying in bed with their son, Megh.
Despite severe injuries, both remained alive for a time after the assault.Four DNA profiles were recovered—two matched the victims, while the others remain unidentified. Investigators say contaminated evidence and unclear samples are hampering progress.
The High Court has granted the special task force, formed last October and led by the PBI chief, an additional six months to continue the probe.Sagar was a news editor at Maasranga TV and Runi a senior reporter at ATN Bangla. The case, filed by Runi's brother, has remained unresolved for over a decade.
