The body was recovered from a house in the Masjid Goli area adjacent to Walton Plaza in Baghri Bazar of the upazila on Friday night. The body of Mani Akhter is the daughter of Khalilur Rahman of Bamankathi area of the upazila. Her husband Nur Uddin is a constable of Jhalokati district police. According to police and local sources, the suicide was reported to Rajapur Police Station on Friday night through the national emergency service 999. Upon receiving the information, the Rajapur Police Station police went to the scene and found Moni Akhter dead on the floor inside the house. It is known that the husband of the deceased Moni Akhter, Nur Uddin, was working as a constable in the Jhalakathi District Police and was working as a gunman for the Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police at the Rajapur Circle Office from the Police Lines. However, he had been absent from work for the last few months.

The deceased's family said that there were frequent quarrels in their married life. Nur Uddin used to beat Moni Akhter for money at various times. They have a five-year-old son and Moni Akhter was three months pregnant, it is also known.

The deceased's father, Khalilur Rahman, said that Nur Uddin called him at night and said, "Your daughter is no more, come home quickly." Later, he went to his daughter's house with his family members and found the door unlocked, although it was bolted. When he entered the house, he saw the daughter's body lying on the floor. Hearing their screams, people in the area rushed to the spot and reported the matter to 999.

However, the victim's family alleges that her husband, Nur Uddin, had been physically torturing Moni Akter for a long time and pressuring her for money. Accused Nur Uddin claimed that his wife committed suicide by locking the door of the house due to a family dispute. Later, he left the house with his child in fear. The incident has created a huge sensation in the area. Locals have demanded a speedy and fair investigation to uncover the real incident and punish the culprits.
