Govt committed to ensuring dev in hilly regions : CHT Minister Dpen Dewan

Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Minister Dipen Dewan said that the government is working to maintain the communal harmony of the hills and establish peace in the region.

He said this to reporters at a view-exchange meeting with administrative officials and civil society representatives at the Khagrachari Circuit House on Monday  afternoon.

The Hilly Minister said that the people have elected the BNP-nominated candidates in the three hilly districts in the national parliamentary elections. The government is committed to ensuring balanced development in the hilly regions to fulfill their expectations.

He also said that he plans to establish an agricultural university in Khagrachari, build a cold storage for storing agricultural products, and expand the improved road system for the Sajek Valley tourist center.

The minister also said that the three Hill District Councils, the Refugee Affairs Task Force and the Hill Development Board will be restructured.

After being elected, Hill Affairs Minister Dipen Dewan, who visited Khagrachhari for the first time, exchanged views with the local administration and people from different classes and professions.

At this time, Brigadier General KM Obaidul Haque, Commander of the Khagrachhari Region of the Army, Deputy Commissioner Md. Anwar Sadat, Chairman of the District Council Shefalika Tripura, Additional Superintendent of Police Md. Shahadat Hossain, Chief Executive Officer (Acting) of the Hill District Council Md. Abdullah Al Mahfuz, officials from various departments and employees of electronics and print media were present.
