Srinagar (Munshiganj) Correspondent
Partial skeletal remains have been stolen from five graves at Bejgaon Cemetery in Patabhog Union, Srinagar Upazila, Munshiganj district recently.
The theft occurred at some point last night. The graves affected belong to:1. Md. Abdul Samad Sheikh, son of late Forman Sheikh2. Late Mosammat Saima Sultana Mitu, daughter of late Ohab3. Late Sheikh Azmal, son of Sheikh Helal, all from Bejgaon4. Late Mosammat Hasina Begum, daughter of late Rafiq Chowdhury, from Basailbhog, Srinagar, Munshiganj.
It is suspected that human skeletons are often stolen for medical college students’ educational purposes or for black magic rituals practiced by occultists. The high market value of human skeletons has led to organized crime operating in secrecy.
Additionally, Bejgaon Cemetery’s proximity to the Dhaka-Mawa highway and its secluded location make it easier for criminals to steal and escape quickly.Abul Kalam Kanan, President of Bejgaon Cemetery Mosque and Madrasa, stated that a similar theft occurred in 2022, leading them to file a General Diary (GD) with the police. This morning, after receiving a call from the cemetery caretaker, they informed the police, who arrived to find five graves disturbed and partial skeletal remains stolen.
Srinagar Police Station OC Md. Shakil confirmed that police visited the site and assured that necessary actions will be taken in this regard.
