Parliamentary seat Kurigram-4 : Many candidates of AL, BNP in the field with no party decision
Fayshal Haque, Chilmari (Kurigram)
Kurigram-4 parliamentary constituency consisting of Chilmari, Roumari and Rajibpur upazilas was once known as Jatiya Party stronghold.
Now that is no longer the case. Awami League's organizational and voting strength in the constituency has increased a lot due to extensive development of the area after being in power for a long time.
Awami League leaders have started running around the 12th parliamentary elections. Preparations for the election have started among the leaders of the party. Jatiya Party nominees are also in the field. However, due to the decision not to go to the election under this government, there are leaders of the main opposition party BNP in Dotana who are hoping for party nomination.
Although the mass communication of the candidates for Kurigram-4 constituency is not very visible, they have covered various issues, festivals with posters, festoons, billboards and digital banners in the electoral area. Such a picture has been seen in constituencies Chilmari, Roumari and Rajivpur upazila.
Apart from the current A-League state minister Zakir Hossain (MP), Rajibpur upazila parishad chairman Akbar Hossain Hero, former chairman of Roumari upazila parishad Mojibur Rahman Bangbasi, former chairman of Rajibpur upazila parishad Shafiul Alam, former convenor of Roumari upazila Awami League and co-PresidentFormer Principal Fazlul Haque Moni, Bangladesh Awami League Relief and Social Welfare Sub-Committee Member Advocate Sheikh Jahangir Alam, Chilmari Upazila Awami League Organizing Secretary Md Rahimuzzaman Sumon, Advocate Machum Iqbal, Roumari Upazila Awami League Vice President Char Bandhu Haji Murad Latif, Kurigram District Awami League Law Affairs Secretary Advocate Amjad Hossain, Rangpur Law College Principal Md. Sajadur Rahman Tata and Dr. Farukul Islam.
Multiple nomination aspirants of Awami League in Kurigram-4 seat alleged that Awami League candidate Md Zakir Hossain won the last parliamentary election and is serving as the State Minister of Public Education and Primary Ministry. After taking charge of the state minister, he could not organize the party well in 3 upazilas, there are internal disputes within the party.
Apart from this, there is anger among the leaders and activists as the boat candidates lost in the upazila council elections. Due to such various reasons, the number of boat marker candidates is high. However, due to the close watch of the Prime Minister, there has been great development.
They also said that if a qualified candidate is elected with a boat, this seat will be in the possession of Awami League again.
On the other hand, it is known as the stronghold of the National Party, but it is no longer in this seat. At present, the organizational condition of Jatiya Party in this region is not very good.
The leaders and workers of the party said that even though it is a grand alliance, the Awami League here does not evaluate them at all. However, many leaders and workers of the party say that if the leadership is reorganized, this stronghold of the Jatiya Party will be restored in the next election. Chilmari Upazila Parishad Chairman Deputy Professor Md. Rukunuzzamanshahin, Roumari Upazila Jatiya Party General Secretary AK M Saiful Rahman, Dant Bhanga Union Former Chairman KM Fazlul Haque Mondal, Roumari Sadar Union Vice President Md. Abdur Razzaq(London).
Although there was a candidate of Jamaat earlier in this seat, Md Azizur Rahman was the candidate of BNP in this seat in the last election. BNP leaders feel that if there is an alliance, it will be suicidal to leave the seat to Jamaat without BNP. The organizational condition of BNP is shaky within the 3 upazilas of this constituency. Party leaders and workers are not seen in anti-government movements in these areas due to grouping in the party for a long time. Most of the organs have expired.
Activities are going on with multiple committees. Among the possible candidates of BNP whose names are being heard are, Roumari Upazila BNP President Azizur Rahman, Chilmari Upazila BNP President Abdul Bari Sarkar, former chairman of Nayarhat Union Associate Professor Abu Hanifa, Rajibpur Upazila President Professor Mokhlesur Rahman, Jatiyatavadi Mahila Dal Central Cultural affairs secretary of the committee, Mamtaz Hossain Lipi and others.Former MP Ruhul Amin is in the field as a candidate of Jatiya Party (JP). Apart from this, former MP Md Golam Habib can vote on any party mark.
