New plan for rural roads using GIS tech : LGED workshop to determine core road network and road priorities in Tungipara

A workshop on identifying core road network, determining road priorities and data verification was held in Tungipara, Gopalganj to make rural road development more planned and effective. The concerned said that through this initiative based on GIS technology, development plans for roads of public importance will be taken on a priority basis.
The workshop was organized by the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) at the Bajrakantha Hallroom of Tungipara Upazila Parishad on Wednesday morning. The workshop was organized under the Rural Road Master Plan Preparation (GIS-based) project funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
Tungipara Upazila Executive Officer Mohammad Didarul Alam presided over the program, with Gopalganj Executive Engineer Muhammad Rubaiyat Zaman as the chief guest. Upazila LGED Engineer AKM Asaduzzaman moderated the program.
In the workshop, GIS Analyst Dharani Chakma of Bates Consulting Services Limited highlighted various aspects of identifying rural road networks, determining the importance of roads, and verifying the collected data through GIS technology.
The speakers said that there is no alternative to proper information-based planning for sustainable and planned rural road development. Roads of public importance need to be developed on a priority basis to facilitate agricultural product transportation, education, healthcare, and public transportation.
The participants in the workshop highlighted the current condition of local roads, agricultural product transportation, movement of people, and connectivity with various important establishments.
Tungipara Police Station OC Ayub Ali, acting chairmen of various union councils, government officials and local public representatives were present at the time.
