Allegations of gross irregularities, corruption and negligence have been raised in the 900 meter drain project under construction at a cost of Tk 7 crore in Matarbari.
Locals claim that the project design and contract conditions are not being properly followed in the construction of the drain running from the CNG station to the western side of Puran Bazar. This has raised questions about the quality and sustainability of the government's development projects worth billions of rupees.
According to local sources, a contractor named CSI has been given the responsibility of implementing the project.
Complaints have been raised that according to the design of the project, there is a 9-inch thick casting, but in reality, the contractor is continuing the construction work with 7-inch thick casting. This has created concern among the locals about the durability and construction quality of the drain. There are also allegations of using substandard materials in construction.
Locals claim that sand taken from the road is being used instead of the standard sand required for casting. There is a danger that the quality of construction will be seriously affected.
Locals also complain that drains are being constructed as desired by changing the design to protect their structures or places in return for huge sums of money from some influential people. As a result, some drains are narrow, some are bent, and some are not constructed as planned, resulting in disruption of the water drainage system in the futureAfraid.
They also said that even though they have started digging together along the long road, the pace of work is very slow due to not hiring enough workers. Due to the work being carried out by a handful of workers, various parts of the road have been left in a dilapidated condition for a long time. Pedestrians, vehicle drivers, traders and residents of the surrounding areas suffer greatlybeing The situation becomes more critical due to rainwater and mud during monsoon.
They said that these irregularities are happening due to the negligence of the responsible officials of the concerned department LGED (Local Government Engineering Department).
LGED official Md. Bani Amin Johnny said in a tone of arrogance, if there is any irregularity in the drain work, I will break it and fix it, what is there to make a fuss about.
