MP Abdus Sattar calls on journalists to stand for truth, justice

Nilphamari-1 (Domar-Dimla) Constituency Member of Parliament and Nilphamari District Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer, Principal Maulana Abdus Sattar, has urged journalists to remain committed to truth and justice rather than taking sides with any individual, political party or group.
He made the remarks at an exchange meeting with journalists working in Dimla at the Dimla Upazila Jamaat-e-Islami office at around 7:00 pm on Tuesday.
The meeting was chaired by Professor Maulana Mujibur Rahman, Ameer of Dimla Upazila Jamaat-e-Islami.
During the meeting, participants discussed various issues and prospects concerning Dimla, including development, public suffering, education, road communication, drugs, smuggling, child marriage, terrorism, extortion and illegal extraction of sand and stones from the Teesta River.
Journalists also highlighted various problems and public grievances in the upazila.
A detailed account of development activities carried out and expenditures made through the MP over the past five months in Nilphamari-1 seat was presented.
Prof Maulana Mujibur Rahman, Ameer of Dimla Upazila Jamaat-e-Islami, presented the details of the development activities and expenditures one after another. He said development works and expenditures totaling approximately Tk 8 crore had been undertaken in different sectors. Journalists and guests present at the meeting listened attentively to the details.
While highlighting the development initiatives, he said the projects had been undertaken by prioritizing the needs and welfare of local people. He also said efforts were being made to identify long-standing problems in the area and work in coordination with the relevant authorities to resolve them.
Chief guest, Principal Maulana Abdus Sattar said, “Journalists must have the courage to call white white and black black. They must stand for truth and justice and maintain objectivity and responsibility while reporting news.”
He said journalists are the mirror of society and play an important role in presenting the problems, prospects and development of an area before the public. He urged journalists to avoid bias toward any individual, political party or group and to give the highest priority to public interest in news reporting
District Jamaat Secretary Maulana Antajul Islam, Upazila Naib-e-Ameer Maulana Qazi Habibur Rahman, Upazila Secretary Qazi Rokonuzzaman Bokul, other leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami at different levels, and journalists representing various media outlets were present.
