Moulvibazar Correspondent

In the case of the rape of a teenage girl at Kulaura Junction Railway Station in Moulvibazar district through enticement, the accused, Akhtar Ali, has been sent to jail by the Moulvibazar 5th Senior Judicial Magistrate Court in Kulaura.

It is learnt  that on July 6, a teenage girl boarded a train from Sylhet and was supposed to get off at Bhanugach Station. However, by mistake, she disembarked at Kulaura Junction Railway Station. While waiting for the next train to return home, she was spending time at the station.

During this time, Akhtar Ali (28), a resident of Kayastha village in Fenchuganj Upazila and a private car driver by profession, presented himself as a sympathetic individual and offered to take the girl home. However, instead of taking her home as promised, he allegedly took her to a secluded place and raped her. Furthermore, it is alleged that Akhtar Ali held the girl hostage and demanded a ransom of 20,000 taka from her family. The girl is the daughter of Shahabuddin from Bagmara village in Kamalganj Upazila of the district.

Following the incident, on Tuesday, the girl’s father, Shahabuddin, filed a rape case at the Kulaura Railway Police Station on behalf of the family. Immediately after the case was filed, the police conducted an operation and arrested the accused, Akhtar Ali. It is known that Akhtar Ali had been transporting passengers on the Kulaura Railway Station to Sylhet route for a long time. On July 8, when he was presented before the Moulvibazar 5th Senior Judicial Magistrate Court (Kulaura) under Magistrate Arif Billah Tarek, the court ordered him to be sent to jail.
