Locals have formed a human chain in Mirsarai, Chittagong to protest against the attempt to encroach on the land purchased by a poor and helpless old man.

The human chain program was held in front of the Mirsarai Upazila Executive Officer's office at 3:30 pm on Sunday.

Present on behalf of helpless Abul Bashar (62), in the human chain were Nur Uddin Jahed, member secretary of Katachhara Union BNP of Jorarganj Police Station No. 7, senior joint convener Didarul Alam Didar, former ward president Ohidul Alam, assistant secretary of Union Jamaat Rasul Ahmed Roni, office secretary of Union Jamaat Shamim Farhad, professional president of Union Jamaat Kabir Ahmed Nizami and local people.

Abul Bashar, a victim of the human chain, said that in 2024, with humanitarian assistance from a local person named Saiful, he tried to build a house by purchasing 6.5 percent of the occupied land of the 26th century within JL No. 44, RS Khatian No. 2242, RS Dag No. 2162 of Katachhara Mouza at a low price. But suddenly, after August 5, local Sirajul Islam Prakash Siraj, a dacoit, and his people created obstacles in the construction of the house. Sirajul Islam, after beating the female members of his family, threw chili powder on the workers engaged in the construction of the house and attacked them with sticks and sticks. As a result, the construction of the house stopped. Due to Siraj's terrorist activities, Abul Bashar and his family are living an inhuman life and are in danger of losing their lives. Abul Bashar complained that despite going door to door to the administration seeking a solution to the matter, he did not get any suitable solution.

BNP Jamaat leaders and activists gathered in support of Abul Bashar in a human chain and demanded that the local people say that Siraj is a known terrorist, drug dealer, litigator and land robber. No solution was found even after filing a complaint against him with the Zorarganj police station and the administration. Therefore, we, the local political leaders and the public, are protesting against Abul Bashar by organizing a human chain. If the administration does not take legal action against Siraj after this, then we, the locals, will come together and take appropriate measures. We will build a house for poor Abul Bashar on our own responsibility.

When Sirajul Islam was asked about this, he told The Country Today, this is a private land. The land was in my possession for a long time. But Abul Bashar did not communicate with me in any way before purchasing it from Saiful, which is why the problem is arising.
