15-year-old uncle arrested for raping 5-year girl in Hatibandha

A shocking case of rape involving a minor has been reported in Lalmonirhat’s Hatibandha Upazila on Sunday afternoon.
A 5-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her 15-year-old uncle, Rabiul Islam, in East Sardubi village under Fakirpara Union.
Local sources said the incident occurred when the girl’s family was away. Rabiul entered the house and attacked the child. Neighbors rescued her after hearing her cries.
The victim was first taken to Hatibandha Upazila Health Complex. Due to her critical condition, she was later moved to Lalmonirhat District Hospital. Doctors confirmed her condition is now stable.
Police arrested Rabiul, who reportedly confessed during questioning. Mahmudun Nabi, officer-in-charge of Hatibandha Police Station, stated, “Legal actions are underway under the Child Act, as the accused is a minor.”
Rabiul’s family and neighbors expressed shock over the incident. The victim’s family has demanded justice, while human rights groups have urged a thorough investigation.
