Krishak Dal leader arrested, expelled from party for assaulting, vandalizing expatriate's wife in Kaliganj

Police have arrested Md. Shah Alam, president of Chalbala Union Krishak Dal, on charges of attacking and vandalizing the home of an Omani expatriate in Kaliganj, Lalmonirhat, and beating the expatriate's wife. He was arrested from the Naodabas border area of Chandrapur Union in the upazila at 5 pm on Wednesday.
The arrested Md. Shah Alam is the son of the deceased Ramzan Ali of Duhuli village of the same upazila. The attack took place in Duhuli village of Chalbala union on Tuesday noon.
According to the victim's family and local sources, Md. Shah Alam had been in a long-standing dispute over land with the family of Md. Mannan, an expatriate from Oman in the Duhuli area. As a result, Shah Alam and his men allegedly went to Mannan's house with sticks on Tuesday afternoon and attacked and vandalized it.
At that time, Mannan's wife Rozina Begum was beaten with a stick when she tried to stop the vandalism at her house. She was seriously injured. Later, locals rescued her and admitted her to the hospital.
After the incident, Rozina Begum filed a complaint with Kaliganj Police Station against three people, naming Md. Shah Alam as the main accused. After receiving the complaint, the police conducted a raid and arrested Md. Shah Alam.
Kaliganj Police Station OC Abu Siddique said that an investigation was launched immediately after receiving the complaint. The main accused in the case, Md. Shah Alam, was arrested during a drive. The police are continuing their drive to bring the other accused in the case under the law.
Meanwhile, after the allegations of attacking an expatriate's wife and vandalizing a house became public, the central parliament of the Bangladesh Nationalist Farmers' Party expelled Md. Shah Alam from the party on Wednesday.
