Journalist Shahinur Rahman Sona gets death threat for publishing report in Rajshahi

An allegation has been made that Rajshahi Bureau Chief of 'Dainik Sakaler Somoy' newspaper Md. Shahinur Rahman Sona received death threats and slander over the phone due to the publication of an investigative news story in Rajshahi. In this incident, he and his family are living in extreme insecurity and fear.
Journalist Shahinur Rahman Sona has filed a GD at Boalia Model Police Station seeking security. According to GD sources, journalist Shahinur Rahman Sona is serving as the Rajshahi Bureau Chief of 'Dainik Sakaler Somoy' newspaper.
On September 5, 2026, an investigative report titled "Who was buried in the name of the deceased Hefaz three and a half years ago" was published on his newspaper's portal and the next day, September 6, in the daily Sakaler Soom newspaper. After the report was published, on September 8, 2026, at approximately 3:57 pm, journalist Shahinur received a call from an unknown number (01714814981) on his personal mobile number while he was at his workplace at Alokar More under Boalia Police Station. The caller made false and misleading accusations based on the news.
At the same time, he threatened journalist Shahinur with major damage and death whenever he got the opportunity. The threators identified themselves as a top BNP leader and a senior ACC official, who identified themselves as his close relatives. After the incident, journalist Shahinur Rahman appeared at Boalia Model Police Station and filed a general diary ( seeking protection for his life. OC of Boalia Police Station Masuma Mustari has received the GD and instructed the police officer in charge to investigate the matter and take necessary legal action.
The victim journalist Shahinur Rahman Sona told the media that "I had to face such threats while performing my professional duties. I and my family are in serious fear due to this. I hope the administration will investigate the matter seriously and take exemplary legal action against those involved."
