3 students die after drowning in Pabna dam

Three children died after falling into rainwater that had accumulated near their house in Chartarapur Union of Pabna Sadar Upazila. The heartbreaking incident took place at around 2 pm on Friday in Daspara village of the upazila.
 
The children are Sumi Khatun, the seven-year-old daughter of Shimul Mallik, a resident of Daspara village, and Md. Ashraful Islam, the eight-year-old son Khalid Hossain and five-year-old daughter Afia Khatun, both of whom were students of a local kindergarten. The two families are now mourning the loss of three children at the same time.
 
According to relatives and local residents, they took a bath together in rainwater collected in a pond in a field adjacent to their house on Friday afternoon. At one stage of bathing, one child started drowning in the deep part of the pond, and the other two came forward to save him. As a result, all three disappeared in the water. After not finding any trace of them for a while, relatives and local residents started searching in the pond. At one stage, they were rescued in critical condition and taken to the hospital for treatment, but the three lost their lives.
 
When the news of this tragic loss of life spread, a shadow of intense grief descended on the entire area, including Daspara. The atmosphere became heavy with the wailing of relatives.
 
Acknowledged the truth of the incident, OC of Pabna Sadar Police Station, Tariqul Islam, said that police were sent to the scene upon receiving the news.
