Jackfruit business planning consultation held in Kapasia

A Value Chain Promotional Business Planning Consultant-2025 was held in Kapasia, Gazipur, to develop the value chain of jackfruit and increase the involvement of the private sector.
The meeting was organized by Hortex Foundation on Sunday morning at the Upazila Parishad auditorium.
The meeting was attended by beneficiaries under the Program on Agriculture and Rural Transformation for Nutrition Entrepreneurship and Resilience in Bangladesh (PARTNER) and was addressed as the chief guest by Dr. Md. Zakir Hossain, Additional Director, Dhaka Region, Department of Agricultural Extension.
The meeting was chaired by Kapasia Upazila Agriculture Officer, Krishibid Sumon Kumar Basak, and Md. Rafiqul Islam Khan, Deputy Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension, Gazipur, spoke as a special guest.
Md. Mamun Hossain, Postharvest and Quality Assurance Specialist of Hortex Foundation, presented the keynote speech on jackfruit cultivation. Value Chain Promotional Officer Md.
Under the direction of Afzalur Rahman, Additional Agriculture Officer Shakil Ahmed, Agricultural Extension Officer Oli Bhowmik, Suraiya Akhter, and President of Kapasia Press Club FM Kamal Hossain, among others, spoke.
The discussion meeting organized by the organizing organization Hortex Foundation, Strategic Partner, Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), provided detailed ideas on the jackfruit value chain promotional business project. The speakers said,
Out of 20 upazilas in the country, Kapasia and Sreepur, Madhupur and Sakhipur upazilas of Tangail are working to develop jackfruit cultivation. Jackfruit is cultivated on 17,600 hectares of land in Kapasia upazila. Five partner organizations of 25 people each have been formed in different areas of Kapasia upazila. They will form cooperative societies and accumulate savings for business welfare as a group.
It has been decided to make a partner one-stop service center in the upazila. Various topics including working in groups or teams with jackfruit farmers, working seasonally at the Partner One Stop Farmer Center, preparing a crop sales calendar, analyzing the crop market, what is the price in which market, what is the wholesale and retail price, weighing the crop daily at the packhouse, writing all the information in the register, sorting, smoking, grading, packaging in crates, communicating and negotiating with traders, risk management, debt collection, raising capital to run a group-based business, investment arrangements and dividend distribution were emphasized. In addition, the business plan for the next one year was finalized and recorded.
Barahar Gram Samity won the first prize for market management work and Karihata Gram Samity won the second prize for seasonal work.
