Indian smuggled goods are freely entering through various borders of Jaintapur Upazila in Sylhet.

The smuggled goods include various types of liquor, Indian betel nuts, sugar, saris, lehengas, Indian medicines of various brands, mobile handsets, cosmetics, motorcycles and Indian cows and buffaloes. A gang is extorting huge sums of money by pretending to be from the concerned administration. In exchange, smuggled goods are entering.

While talking to people from different areas along the border, those who did not want to be named said that Indian smuggled goods such as various types of liquor, betel nut, sugar, are entering through the areas of 1278 Khansi Haor, Shantimair Jum, 1279 Mokampunji, 1280 Sreepur, 1281 Chagal Khauri, 1882 Minatila, 1283 Rubber Bagan, Lambatila, 1284 Kendri Haor, DBir Haor, 1285 DBir Haor Farider Bari area, 1286 River Pillar (DBir Haor Asampara), 1286 Ghilatail, 1287 Talal, Phulbari, 1288-1289 Tiprakhla, 1290 Karimtila, Kamlabari, 1291-1292 Bhitargol, 1293-1294-1295 Goabari, Bairakhel, 1296 Horni on the Jaintapur Upazila border. Sarees, lehengas, various brands of medicines, mobile handsets, cosmetics, motorcycles and Indian cows and buffaloes.

From all these products, smugglers are extorting huge sums of money from the smugglers in the name of line management by defying the administration, Dhaka's Basindha Samad and Arman's trusted companion Abdul Karim alias Bendiz Karim, known as the BGB source or lineman, former Chhatra League leader Mirzan Ahmed Rubel, UP member Md. Mansur Ahmed, Masum Ahmed Sujan, Md. Zakaria.

It is mentioned that in the past few months, a joint operation by the police and Sonabahini on the basis of secret information in Jaintapur upazila led to the seizure of a large number of drugs on the Sylhet-Tamabil highway.
From the past few days to the present time, members of this gang have been controlling smuggling on the upazila border route. They changed their form over time and controlled their smuggling business. In order to control their smuggling business throughout the upazila, the members of this gang conducted all their activities by using the Awami League candidate as a debit card in the last Upazila Parishad elections.

After the change of government after the student-public movement on August 5, the members of the gang no longer needed debit cards. They are controlling the smuggling business on the border by expanding their dominance. On Tuesday, February 11, at 11 pm, a clash occurred with stone quarry workers while they were bringing a consignment of buffaloes in the Banaghat area between 1280-1281 pillars. It was reported that 4 stone workers were injured in the attack by smugglers.

The conscious people of the area said that drugs are spreading throughout the upazila due to the smuggling business across the border. As a result, the rising youth are falling victim to drugs at a serious rate and the young generation is heading towards destruction.

Jaintapur Upazila BNP General Secretary Abdul Hafiz said, the way various goods including drugs are entering through Jaintapur area through smuggling is leading to the destruction of the youth society. If smuggling is not stopped to protect the youth society, Jaintapur will also become a dangerous place. He also demanded legal action against the supporters of smuggling.

Jaintapur Model Police Station OC Abul Bashar Mohammad Badruzzaman said, since joining Jaintapur, raids have been conducted in various areas and smuggled goods including drugs have been seized. The raid is currently ongoing.
