Ichamati turns dead canal

River Ichamati, which once flowed through the eastern side of Uthali Bus Stand of Shibalaya Upazila of Manikganj on the Dhaka-Aricha highway, has now turned into a waterless dead canal.
12 years ago, the Water Development Board rehabilitated the 34- km long river from Ghior to Harirampur's Lechraganj. Shibalaya also rehabilitated the 6 km Kantavati river from Jafarganj Ghoshbari to Garadiya in upazila but due to the lack of water flow in these two rivers, which are connected with Jamuna, this river has become unimportant for navigation, sanitation and other needs.
Many people are cultivating various crops including paddy in the river.
