Upazila administration stands by destitute family burnt to death in Char Kushahata

The Goalando Upazila administration stood by the family of Islam Molla, who was burnt to death in a fire in the remote char area of Kushahata, the last boundary of Daulatdia Union in Goalando Upazila of Rajbari.
The family visited the house of the victim Islam Molla at around 11 am on Thursday and inspected it. Funded by the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief and with the support of the upazila administration, Upazila Project Implementation Officer Md. Abu Bakar initially provided him with cash assistance of Tk 20,000.
Also present at the time were Upazila Election Officer Md. Jasim Uddin and journalists from print and electronic media.

In this regard, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md. Nahidur Rahman said that as soon as the news of a family being burnt in a terrible fire in the remote Char Kushahata area was heard, the Upazila Project Implementation Officer was asked for assistance. He visited the scene on Thursday and initially provided cash assistance of Tk 20,000. Later, government corrugated iron and dry food will be provided to the affected families as soon as possible. He also said that no fire service vehicle could go there because it was across the Padma River.
Md. Islam Molla, a member of the affected family, said, "Last Tuesday at around 10 pm, local people suddenly saw a fire in my house. No one in my family was home at the time. After receiving the news, I quickly came and saw that my 3 houses, 12 cows, 11 maunds of paddy, garlic, furniture and everything had been burnt to ashes. My family only had the clothes they were wearing. We have become completely destitute after everything was burnt. Now we are living under the open sky." He also said, "I have suffered a loss of over 15 lakh taka."
