Coast Guard rescues 67 fishermen, 4 trawlers from pirates in Bay

 The Bangladesh Coast Guard has successfully rescued 67 fishermen and four fishing trawlers that fell prey to pirates in the Bay of Bengal near Sokina’s Mohana, adjacent to Barguna district.
Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haq, Media Officer of the Coast Guard informed this throuh a press release on Friday afternoon. On April 2, 2025, four fishing trawlers—MV Tarek, Abdullah Tufan, MV Ma, and Junaid Islam—carrying 67 fishermen set out from Patharghata in Barguna district for deep-sea fishing. On April 9, 2025, around 11:00 pm, pirates attacked the trawlers near Sokina’s Mohana under Taltali upazila of Barguna. During the assault, two fishermen sustained bullet injuries, and the pirates disabled the engines of the trawlers before fleeing.
Subsequently, on April 10, 2025, at around 12:00 pm, trawler owner Selim Chowdhury informed the Coast Guard about the incident.Acting on the information, a rescue team from the Bangladesh Coast Guard Station Patharghata promptly reached the location and rescued all 67 fishermen along with the four trawlers, bringing them safely to BCG Station Patharghata.Among the rescued, 27 injured fishermen were sent to Patharghata Upazila Health Complex for treatment, while the remaining fishermen and the boats were handed over to their families.
 Bangladesh Coast Guard maintains round-the-clock patrols to ensure stable law and order in the country. These efforts have significantly improved the law and order situation in coastal and riverine areas under the Coast Guard’s jurisdiction. The  Coast Guard will continue such operations in the future to safeguard the region.
