A court in Munshiganj has sentenced an accused named
Golam Hossain alias Golam Mostafa (43) to five years of rigorous imprisonment and fined him
Tk 5,000 in a heroin possession case. In default of the fine, he will have to serve an additional six
months of simple imprisonment.
The verdict was announced on Tuesday at 12:00 PM by Judge Gazi Delwar Hossain of the
Munshiganj Chief Judicial Magistrate Court. Since the accused was absent during the verdict, the
court issued a warrant for his arrest. The information was confirmed by the court's bench
assistant, Bulbul Ahmed.
The accused, Golam Hossain alias Golam Mostafa, is the son of the late Harunur Rashid from
Khanka Dalal Para in Sadar Upazila.
According to case and court sources, on February 5, 2018, at around 11:30 AM, members of the
Sadar Police's raiding party arrested the accused based on a tip-off from the road in front of
Sukbaspur Bashirunnesa School in the upazila. At the time of his arrest, 50 small packets of
heroin, weighing 10 grams in total, were recovered from him.
Following the incident, Inspector Md. Hossain Mia of the District Narcotics Control Office filed
a case against Golam Mostafa under the Narcotics Control Act at Sadar Police Station on the
same day.
After eight years of court proceedings and testimonies from five witnesses, the judge found the
accused guilty and announced the verdict.
Regarding the verdict, the public prosecutor, Advocate Sultana Rozina Yasmin, stated that the
accused, Golam Mostafa, was arrested with 50 grams of heroin from the Sukbaspur area on
February 5, 2018. Based on the testimony of five witnesses, the court found him guilty and
sentenced him to five years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Tk 5,000. In default of
payment, he will have to serve an additional six months of simple imprisonment. The
prosecution expressed satisfaction with the court’s decision.
