Head teacher allegedly raped female teacher in Kushtia

Md. Belal Hossain, Kushtia

A head teacher of Al Uswatul Hasana Sharmin Sultana Madrasa and Orphanage in Talbaria area of Mirpur Upazila, Kushtia, has allegedly raped a female teacher, sparking widespread concern and discussion in the locality.

The complainant teacher (pseudonym: Nur Banu) alleged that the institution's head teacher, Mawlana Shah Sayem Billah, maintained a physical relationship with her for an extended period after promising to marry her. According to her statement, she fell ill at the madrasa on Saturday (June 6) and was taken to a doctor for treatment. Medical examinations reportedly revealed that she was pregnant, after which she brought the rape allegation against the head teacher.

Local sources said that following the spread of the allegations, the accused head teacher has not been seen in the area. Several residents also claimed that his first wife had returned to her parental home in Nilphamari. However, no comments from the accused, his family members, or their representatives were available at the time of reporting.

Meanwhile, a former member of the madrasa management committee alleged that the head teacher regularly failed to conduct classes properly and did not maintain transparent financial records. He claimed that questions had been raised regarding approximately seven lakh taka in institutional funds. The former committee member also alleged that accusations of financial irregularities and misconduct involving women had surfaced against the head teacher in the past.

Additional local allegations suggest that attempts are being made to settle the matter privately. Some residents claim that influential individuals have initiated mediation efforts and that pressure is being exerted on certain community members to refrain from speaking publicly about the incident. However, these claims could not be independently verified.

As of the time of publication, no official statement had been obtained from Mawlana Shah Sayem Billah, the madrasa authorities, or any other individuals named in connection with the allegations.

Local residents have called for an impartial investigation to establish the facts and urged authorities to take appropriate legal action if the allegations are proven to be true.
