Four babies born together in Cox’s Bazar

A woman named Yasmin Akhter (25) has given birth to four babies at once at Union Hospital Cox’s Bazar PLC. Among the newborns, there are three boys and one girl o Tuesday at around 1:15 PM.
A team of doctors from the hospital’s advanced and specialist gynecology department successfully performed a cesarean section to deliver the four newborns.
The surgery was led by obstetrician and gynecology specialist Dr. Arifa Meher Rumi, assisted by Dr. Mosammat Roksana Akter, Dr. Nur Mohammad, and Dr. Kaushik Dutta. Earlier, the expectant mother was admitted to the hospital at around 10:00 AM.
Yasmin Akhter is the wife of RabiuI Alam, a Saudi expatriate from Ward No. 6, Musarhola village, Palongkhali Union, Ukhiya Upazila. RabiuI has been working in Saudi Arabia for the past eight years. He has sought prayers from everyone for his children.
Their grandfather, Nur Ahmad, said, “I have received four grandchildren at once — three boys and one girl. I am overjoyed, and my son in Saudi Arabia is also very happy. We seek everyone's prayers for our grandchildren.”
Dr. Mosammat Roksana Akter, one of the surgeons involved in the operation, said, “It was a high-risk pregnancy. However, we were prepared in advance. Successfully delivering the mother and four babies in good health is a matter of great joy for us.”
She further mentioned, “Among the newborns, one weighs 700 grams, another 600 grams, and the lightest weighs 580 grams. They are currently being kept under intensive observation at the hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).”
According to health experts, naturally conceiving and giving birth to quadruplets is extremely rare — with a probability of only one in around 700,000 cases.
The hospital authorities stated that long-term medical care, nutritional support, and gift packages will be provided to ensure the health and well-being of the mother and babies.
Regarding this, Abdullah Al Mukit Chowdhury, Managing Director of Union Hospital Cox’s Bazar PLC, said, “For the first time in the medical history of Cox’s Bazar, a successful delivery of four babies together has been completed. The gynecology department of Union Hospital Cox’s Bazar PLC skillfully conducted the operation. The hospital authority expressed their joy and pride in this achievement, reflecting their commitment to providing advanced healthcare services.
