
50 illegal China nets seized, burnt in Kotalipara

In a special drive against banned China nets in Kotalipara upazila, the administration seized around 50 illegal nets and later destroyed them by burning in public on Tuesday morning.
The operation was conducted in various wetland areas of Amtali Union under the directive of Kotalipara Upazila Nirbahi Officer (Acting) Md. Masum Billah and led by Upazila Senior Fisheries Officer S. M. Shahjahan Siraj. With the active cooperation of local village police (chowkidars), the team seized 50 China nets that were declared illegal by the government.
Later, these nets were publicly burned and destroyed in front of the Kotalipara Upazila Parishad premises. According to the Upazila Fisheries Office, the estimated market value of the seized nets is approximately three lakh taka.
Upazila Senior Fisheries Officer S. M. Shahjahan Siraj stated, “Such drives will continue with the aim of protecting the environment and biodiversity, and conserving native fish species.”
