An allegation has been made that nearly half a crore taka was embezzled in Jamalpur district under the Melandha upazila in the name of sending people abroad.

In this incident, the victim families of Adra Boro Bari village held a press conference at the fraudster's house on Thursday noon.

It was alleged that in 2023, Abdul Jalil Badal Master (55), son of Jalal Uddin of Adra boro Bari village, his son Ragib Yasir Sinjan (25), daughter-in-law Rokeya Afroz Pranti (24), brother Robel Mia (35), Jolils wife, Corona Begum Kona (45), conspired with each other to extort about half a crore taka from various people by promising to send them abroad.

Among them, Abdul Jalil's nephews Habibur Rahman (27), Sultan Mahmud (24), nephews Robin Mia (24), Raju Mia (25), sisters Hasna Begum (55), Marjina Begum (45), Mominur (45) and his relatives, including Ward BNP President Forsa of Adra Union, made the complaint.

According to the complaint, took about half a crore taka from us by promising to send us to South Korea on student visas. Then he made fake documents and sent us to the Korean embassy in Dhaka, promising to send us to Korea. After checking with the Korean embassy, we found out that our documents were fake. Later, we returned disappointed.

We, our relatives and residents, as well as the Adra UP chairman and members, have made several attempts to resolve this fraud. At one point, they ran away from home and took the time to return our money. Even when our relatives called, they refused to pay.

This does not end there, they are making various threats and intimidation against the creditors, including filing cases. We have filed a complaint with the Melandaha police station. The police have also investigated the incident. Since the accused were not at home, their views could not be known.

Shafiqul Islam, OC of Melandaha Police Station, said, "We have received a complaint of fraud in the name of sending people abroad. The matter is under legal process."
