Cox's Bazar Correspondent

July Shaheed Smriti Foundation chief executive officer Mir Mahbubur Rahman Snigdha today said students and people will once again take to the streets, if any trace of negligence is found in the trial process of the July-August killings.

“If there is any trace of negligence in the trial process of the July-August killings, students and people will once again take to the streets, the way Martyrs Abu Sayeed and Mir Mugdho did in the past,” he said.

Snigdha, also brother of Martyr Mir Mahfuzur Rahman Mugdho, made the remarks at a ceremony titled ‘Bangladesh Stands with the Injured Warriors’ organized to distribute financial support to the victims of the July-August uprising.

The event was organised by the July Shaheed Smrity Foundation, with assistance from the Cox's Bazar District Administration, at the Cox's Bazar Cultural Centre auditorium.

The family of Nurul Amin, a student leader from Eidgaon's Purba Gojalia area who embraced martyrdom during the uprising, received Taka 5 lakh. Also, 47 injured individuals of the district received Taka 1 lakh each as financial assistance.

Snigdha recalled the sacrifices of the martyrs and the injured during the July-August uprising, emphasizing that their contributions could never be repaid.

“The courage to sacrifice life for the country is not something everyone possesses. The July Shaheed Smriti Foundation will always stand beside them,” he said.

The district’s Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Salahuddin said the families of the martyrs and the injured in Cox's Bazar are currently enduring severe hardship and thus, he said the administration has extended its support as much as possible, including delivering Ramadan presents to them.

The programme commenced with a one-minute silence to honour and remember the martyrs and the injured.

According to the foundation officials, four individuals were killed and 82 people were injured during the protests in Cox's Bazar last year. The verification process for 62 injured individuals has been completed.Earlier, the foundation had provided Tk5 lakh as financial assistance to each of the families of three other martyrs in the district.
