The University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh will organize a three-day regional higher education conference in Dhaka in December this year, bringing together representatives from the UGCs of SAARC member countries.
The inaugural ceremony of the conference will invite Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus as the chief guest.

The decision to organize the regional higher education conference was taken during a meeting held at the UGC on Monday. Chaired by UGC Chairman Prof r Dr. S M A Faiz, the meeting was attended by UGC members Prof Dr. Mohammad Tanjimuddin Khan, Prof Dr. Mohammad Anwar Hossain, Prof Dr. Md. Saidur Rahman, World Bank Senior Education Specialist T.M. Asaduzzaman, World Bank Lead Economist for South Asia Dr. Harsha Aturupane, Project Director of the Higher Education Acceleration and Transformation (HEAT) Project Prof Dr. Asaduzzaman, and other relevant officials.
The meeting resolved to hold the regional higher education conference at a hotel in Dhaka. A steering committee has also been formed to ensure its successful implementation. In addition to representatives from the UGCs of SAARC countries, vice-chancellors, academics, and researchers from various universities in Bangladesh will participate in the conference.
It is mentionable, the conference aims to consolidate the UGC network in the region, foster a collaborative approach to enhance the quality of education and research in universities, and determine actionable steps for the advancement of higher education.
The conference will be funded under the ‘Higher Education Acceleration and Transformation (HEAT)’ project, implemented by the UGC.
