Coast Guard anti-drug drive: 400 bottles of foreign liquor seized in Patenga

The Bangladesh Coast Guard seized a large consignment of 400 bottles of smuggled foreign liquor worth an estimated Tk 1.36 crore during a specialized raid near Patenga in Chattogram.
Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan, Media Officer of the Bangladesh Coast Guard Headquarters informed this in a press release on Sunday noon.
The press release said, the maritime law enforcement force maintains a strict vigilance network to secure sea ports and eliminate smuggling, human trafficking, and the illegal narcotics trade across coastal belts.
Acting on a tip-off, an operational team from Coast Guard Base Chattogram conducted a targeted sweep in the Akmal Ali Ghat area under EPZ Police Station around 8:00 AM on Sunday (July 12) . During the drive, personnel raided a concealed den used by smugglers and recovered 400 bottles of foreign liquor that had been illegally offloaded from a commercial cargo vessel. Sensing the approach of the law enforcement team, the smugglers fled into the dense coastal terrain, and no arrests could be made.
The seized contraband liquor has been. processed for handover to local customs and police authorities for necessary legal action under the Narcotics Control Act.
