Bangladesh Coast Guard distributes relief to weather-hit families in St. Martin

Cox's Bazar Correspondent

The Bangladesh Coast Guard has distributed emergency relief packages among vulnerable families stranded on Saint Martin’s Island, following a severe disruption in naval communications caused by relentless monsoonal downpours and rough sea conditions.

Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan, Media Officer of the Bangladesh Coast Guard Headquarters, informed this on Friday noon.

Under the management of the Coast Guard East Zone, personnel from the Coast Guard Station Saint Martin executed the relief drive on Friday morning, operating from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM. Essential food supplies and daily commodities were distributed to 100 heavily affected families on the isolated coral island. These families had been facing an acute shortage of daily necessities due to the consecutive five-day suspension of passenger and cargo vessel operations on the Teknaf–Saint Martin maritime route.

"Since its inception, the Bangladesh Coast Guard has been committed to ensuring public safety across the country's coastal and riverine frontiers, alongside providing critical humanitarian aid during natural disasters and national crises," Lieutenant Commander Sujan stated.

The press release added that the maritime law enforcement force will maintain its rescue operations, humanitarian surveillance, and welfare activities across vulnerable coastal belts to mitigate public suffering during seasonal adversities.
