Araihazar Central Shaheed Minar turns into parking lot

The premises of the Araihazar Central Shaheed Minar in Narayanganj have now turned into a parking zone for various types of vehicles. Locals have complained that from morning until late at night, a wide range of vehicles—including motorcycles, private cars, commercial cargo trucks, and auto-rickshaws—are parked within the Shaheed Minar grounds.
Locals note that a private library was established here in 1978, followed by the construction of the Upazila's Central Shaheed Minar. The Shaheed Minar is not merely a site for paying tribute to the martyrs of the Language Movement; it is also a vital hub for social and cultural activities. Following the events of August 5, 2024, various political programs were also held here.

Local residents are unable to spend their leisure time at the Shaheed Minar premises in the afternoons. As a result, many are forced to spend their time on nearby roads and footpaths instead.
Abdul Ahad, a trader at the Araihazar Municipal Market, stated that they are urging the concerned authorities to remove the parked vehicles and restore the area for public use.
Locals demand immediate action to halt the illegal and unregulated parking and to restore the proper environment of the Shaheed Minar premises.
Multiple attempts were made to contact Araihazar UNO Md. Asadur Rahman via mobile phone regarding this matter, but he did not answer the calls.
Narayanganj Deputy Commissioner Md. Raihan Kabir said, "I will look into the matter and try to take the necessary steps to facilitate public use of the Shaheed Minar."
