Six two-story government buildings located next to the UNO office in the Bauphal Upazila Parishad premises of Patuakhali have been in a dilapidated state for a long time. Although the buildings have been declared abandoned, four families with their children are living in them at risk of their lives. This poses a risk of an accident at any time.

It was seen on the spot that plaster has fallen off in various places of six two-story buildings near the UNO office in the Upazila Parishad premises. Water is seeping through the roof. Many doors and windows are broken. Due to lack of necessary renovation and maintenance for a long time, various parts of the buildings have become unstable.

As a result, the buildings have become uninhabitable.
It is learned that the families of the third and fourth class employees of the Upazila Parishad have been living in these buildings. Currently, four families are living there. Among them are children and other members.

An employee who did not wish to be named said, "We are forced to live in the abandoned building at risk as there is no other place to stay. If we are quickly provided with accommodation elsewhere, we can be free from this risk."
Locals said that it is very worrying that employees with their families live in such a risky building in the premises of an important government office like the Upazila Parishad. Especially since they live with children, the risk of accidents is even higher.

At any time, a major accident can occur if the roof, wall or any part of the building collapses. Therefore, they have demanded that the families living in risky buildings be evacuated to a safe place before an accident occurs and that the abandoned buildings be removed or necessary measures be taken.

Bauphal UNO Saleh Ahmed said, "The dilapidated buildings have been declared abandoned. Those living there have been given notices to vacate their homes."
