Police in Dimla of Nilphamari district recovered 73 bottles of banned Indian ESkuf syrup during a special anti-drug operation after finding them abandoned in a betel nut garden.

According to police sources, the recovery was made at around 1:05 am on Monday from a betel nut garden located south of the residence of Md. Matiar Rahman (70) in Shobhanganj Balapara area under Balapara Union of Dimla Upazila.

Police said that at around 11:45 pm on Sunday (August 2), while on duty at Khagarhat Bazar, Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shawkat Ali Sarkar received information from local residents that a white plastic sack containing suspected narcotics had been left in the garden. Acting on the OC's instructions, a police team led by SI (Unarmed) Md. Abul Kalam, accompanied by SI Sagar Mahanta, Constables Ershad, Ripon, and Driver Constable Masud, rushed to the spot and conducted a search operation.

In the presence of local Union Parishad member Md. Saidul Islam, Md. Shahidul Islam, and other respected local residents, police opened the sack and found 73 bottles of Indian-made ESkuf syrup, each containing 100 ml, packed inside a red mesh bag. The total quantity seized was 7,300 ml (7.3 litres), with an estimated market value of approximately Tk 73,000.
Police said no claimant or owner of the seized syrup was found at the scene. A seizure list was prepared in the presence of witnesses, and the recovered items were taken into police custody. A GD has been recorded at Dimla Police Station regarding the incident.

Officer-in-Charge Shawkat Ali Sarkar said, "Dimla Police maintain a zero-tolerance policy against drugs. Acting on confidential information, we recovered a large quantity of banned ESkuf syrup from an abandoned location.

Legal procedures have been completed, and efforts are underway to identify those responsible. Our anti-drug drive will continue with full determination to keep society free from narcotics."
