32nd death anniv of renowned artist SM Sultan observed with various events

The 32nd death anniversary of the internationally acclaimed artist SM Sultan was observed through various programs. To mark the occasion, tributes were paid at Sultan's grave at 9:00 am on Saturday.
The event was organized by the District Administration, with participation from the SM Sultan Bengal College of Fine Arts, SM Sultan Foundation, SM Sultan Memorial Museum, Narail Press Club, District Shilpakala Academy, SM Sultan Children's Fine Arts and Crafts Foundation, Murchana Sangeet Niketan, and various other political and social organizations.
The day's events included the recitation of the Holy Quran, special prayers (*Dua-Munajat*), an art competition for children and adolescents, a discussion meeting, and a prize-giving ceremony.
Attendees included Deputy Commissioner Dr. Mohammad Abdul Salam; Zila Parishad Administrator and Freedom Fighter Mostafizur Rahman Alek; Acting Superintendent of Narail District Hospital Dr. Abul Fazal Muhammad Moshiur Rahman Babu; Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Ahsan Mahmud Russell; Sadar UNO TM Rahsin Kabir; former Member Secretary of the Sultan Foundation Advocate Iqbal Hossain Sikdar; Curator of the SM Sultan Memorial Museum Tandra Mukherjee; Assistant Curator Mehedi Hasan Rana; and Narail Press Club General Secretary Mahbubur Rashid Lablu, among others from various professions.
The internationally renowned painter SM Sultan breathed his last on October 10, 1994, at the Combined Military Hospital in Jashore. He was born on August 10, 1924, in Machimdia, Narail, to his father, Mecher Ali, and mother, Mazu Bibi. In recognition of his contributions to the art of painting, S.M. Sultan received numerous honors, including the Ekushey Padak (1982), the Independence Award (1993), recognition as a Resident Artist (1984), and the Bangladesh Charushilpi Sangsad Award (1986). He was also conferred titles such as ‘Man of the Year’ by Cambridge University, ‘Man of Achievement’ by the Biographical Center in New York, and ‘Man of Asia’ by *Asia Week* magazine. Besides , since 2001, the Sultan Foundation has been awarding the ‘Sultan Gold Medal’ to an accomplished artist.
