Discussion held in Sundarganj to raise public awareness on Anthrax prevention

A discussion meeting focused on raising public awareness to control anthrax disease was held at the Sundarganj Upazila Health Complex Auditorium recently.
The meeting was chaired by UNO Iffat Jahan Tuli and moderated by Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Kamrul Hasan.
Speakers at the event highlighted that anthrax—locally known as Torka—is a highly contagious bacterial disease affecting livestock that can easily transmit to humans through the handling or consumption of meat from infected animals. They stressed the importance of immediate measures to contain outbreaks and build strong community awareness.
Key guidelines and decisions highlighted during the meeting include no sick cattle or animals should be slaughtered without prior medical examination and clearance from the Livestock Department.
Upazila health officials, livestock representatives, local elected public representatives, and community leaders attended the meeting and pledged coordinated action to protect both livestock and public health in the upazila.
