The closing ceremony of the month-long Divisional Tree Plantation Campaign and Tree Fair was held at the conference room of the Khulna Deputy Commissioner’s office on Tuesday afternoon.

According to the fair organizing committee, around 77,000 saplings of different species worth approximately Tk 10.9 million were sold during the month-long fair.

Divisional Commissioner Md Abdullah Harun, speaking as the chief guest, said trees are our most beneficial friends as well as an important source of economic resources. Tree plantation not only provides economic benefits but also plays a vital role in maintaining environmental balance.

He said trees are essential at every stage of human life, from birth to death. Therefore, everyone should plant trees and encourage others to do the same.
The Divisional Commissioner further said trees help protect people from harmful environmental effects and reduce the level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. He urged people to plant more trees to protect the environment.

Khulna Deputy Commissioner Hure Jannat presided over the programme. Forest Conservator Imran Ahmed, Superintendent of Police Mohammad Tajul Islam and General Secretary of Khulna Press Club Md Tarikul Islam attended the event as special guests.

Divisional Forest Officer A Z M Hasanur Rahman delivered the welcome speech. Nursery Owners’ Association President Md Badrul Alam Royal and journalist Al Mahmud Prince also spoke at the programme.

The event was jointly organized by the Khulna district administration and the Khulna Sundarbans West Forest Division.

At the closing ceremony, the chief guest awarded crests and certificates to five electronic and print media professionals for their reports on the tree fair. Prizes were also distributed among students who won various competitions. Representatives of the stalls securing first, second and third positions were also awarded crests and certificates.
